upgrading pump

You can rebuild any water pump, but can you make it perform better? A company upgrades the water pump to a 63 cadillac by riveting a round metal disk to the water vanes. They say it increases low speed water flow. The rivets rub into the timing chain cover, so an aditional gasket must be used to space out the water pump. Can you do the same results without the need for aditional gaskets?

Nailhead WaterPump

I have a recently rebuilt '63 N'head w/o ac and am having cooling problems when the air temp exceeds 85-90. I have recored the rad (3 cores), installed a new water pump, checked the thermo, and recently installed a shroud. The only thing I can think of now is that the water pump is not pumping the volume it should. There is an option for a 5 blade and a 3 blade pump for this car ('63 Wildcat). Two questions:
-Do you think the 3 blade or the 5 blade creates more flow? (I think I have the 5 blade but have access to the 3 blade also), and
-Would a rebuild by you create greater flow?

Thanks for your help / Mike
